Dan Rich, former provost of the University of Delaware, will make a special presentation for alumni and friends of the School of Urban Affairs & Public Policy. A reception will follow the presentation in the lobby.
The global environment of higher education is in the midst of a dramatic transformation that has altered requirements for institutional success and promoted a re-conception of the public role of U.S. universities. The emerging environment is more turbulent, more threatening, and more competitive than only a few decades ago, and it is restructuring the underlying political economy of higher education. The new political economy redefines the public responsibilities of universities in line with a greater focus on stimulating success in the global competition for economic development. This redifinition has important implications for the mission and programs of all U.S. universities, public and private, and also for the communities and the constituencies they serve.
