Education faculty receive national recognition

Professors Jan H. Blits and Linda S. Gottfredson of the School of Education have received the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education's first Prometheus Award.
The award, which includes a $1,000 prize, was presented at FIRE's tenth anniversary celebration, a black-tie gathering of more than 200 guests at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York on Oct. 22. The award was conferred in recognition of Blits' and Gottfredson's challenge of the University's residential-life program in 2007.
According to Blits, FIRE has had direct responsibility for changing 79 "unconstitutional and repressive policies" at colleges and universities across the country, representing 1.5 million students.
